Nerdy Christmas Shopping!!!

Guess what I did yesterday!! Oh… I guess I kind of gave it away in the title didn’t I? Well… I went nerdy 🤓Christmas shopping🛍 at The Calgary Expo Holiday Market!!

As soon as you walk in there are over a dozen nerdishly decorated by individuals or groups for attendees to vote on … Here were my Favs …

The first one, the Marvel one, looked really Awesome with the masks and the comic books (that’s the one I picked). It was the largest of the trees and I assumed it to be a tribute to Stan, it won my heart and my vote. The Ghostbuster one was cool because … Ghostbusters! You can’t see it in the cropped photo above, but the stay puft marshmallow man’s head it the tree topper, so the tree IS the stay puft marshmallow man!!  If you look closely you can see Egon, Winston, Venkman and Ray are taking him down!  I loved the Doctor who one too with the Tardis lights (and stocking), the Cybermen and 3d glasses ornaments, the iconic scarf and to top it off (unseen) a weeping angel topper!! The only thing missing … bow ties. Bow Ties are cool (and maybe some sonic screwdrivers)!! That last one … the star wars one … I have no words! I mean really… What the… the poor tree… LOL All the trees were great really, these were just “my” favourites!

What would the expo market be with out the fun speech bubble photos!! Last years photo is hard to beat. And although this years is fucking hilarious in an icky creepy kind of way… last years was perfect. In case you don’t know, Spiderman to me is like Batman to Kev. He loves the Batman, his favourite superhero …well maybe he didn’t want to marry batman when he was six so it might not be “exactly” like me and spidey … but hey, ya never know … everyone has their secrets … BAHAHAHA

We walked around for over 4 hours looking at nerd inspired goodies from superhero decorated cookies to nerd inspired jewelry, from fan art to homemade soaps, bathbombs and lotions all with fandom names, from 3d printed mini’s to embroidered tea towels, from funko pops to handmade crafts. Collectibles, Comics and Costumes. T-shirts, toys and Teas! In fact, The best nerd tea in20181202_140425the world Tea Hippie. Oh my lord, Kelly makes the best, tastiest and nerdiest teas ever … AND she is Local (Cochrane, AB). I do not get paid in anyway shape or form for this, I am giving you this info out of pure love and respect for my favourite tea and tea lady… Go get some!! Click Here > Tea Hippie Web Page or here > Tea Hippie Esty page (Esty is where the fandom flavours are!!) These are the ones I bought today … to add to my collection!!

I saw soooo many things I wanted today, for example… 20181201_115402.jpg20181201_115406ALL of these mugs!!! I want them all!! Princess Bride Mug!!! Why don’t I have one yet? WTF! A Labyrinth mug, A Dark Crystal mug and a Gremlins mug!!! Eeeek!! But Alas, I behaved …mostly … I may have bought myself 3 things (I am counting the 4  teas as 1). Walking up and down the isles I made a mental note of the possible gift ideas for various friends, family and secret Santa groups. On my way through the aisles I came across the Starfleet booth, they had a bunch of cool nerdy ass Star Trek stuff, but one thing caught my attention and I couldn’t put it down … it had a squeaker and a shaker in it. It fucking Squeaked AND squealed! Unfortunately, they had this guy fixed, so he won’t be multiplying uncontrollably giving me tons of baby Tribbles!!!   He is so fuzzy! I loved him to much to pass by,so I screamed (in my head) “take my money” and handed over the $4.00 that allowed me to adopt and bring home this little ball of happiness. I will have to keep a close eye on him though. My friend B has a dog, Brooke, who also loves the squeaky balls of fuzz (Oh My gawd! That is so dirty and I am not changing it! LMFAO). Well Brooke can’t have my Tribble, he is my happy little friend. Giving him one last shake before putting him in the bag 20181202_140320(Kevin found this giddiness over the tribble quite amusing) we headed off to continue making our rounds (We like to do 2 laps – first one to see everything and make notes, the second to make the purchases – yeah … the tribble and tea were bought in round 1 … just saying).

So during round one, I found an item that I really wanted, but couldn’t justify the cost…it was a little pricey for what it was. I admired it for a few minutes picked it up, put it back, picked it up, put it back. Chatting with the maker I discovered that this one of a kind handmade item was made and finished with 2 hours left of the 2018 Edmonton Expo. I am SURE that if he finished it before the expo, and had it on display, it would have sold fairly quickly …especially since the inspiration was there at the expo! So I hemmed and hawed and acted like it wasn’t worth it. Trying to convince myself or Kev? I don’t know, probably Me. We walked away and finished our round looking at all the amazing Art, beautiful handmade jewelry and fantastic fandom treasures. Before splitting up for round 2, We ran into my new friend K and her husband J. K had never been to the Holiday market due to a couple hospital visits, so as an early Christmas gift I sent her a pair of tickets. She was so happy, which of course makes me so happy. Anyhoo, we chatted with them for a few, made plans to make plans and then all split up to find our nerdy gifts. I found a couple things for my secret santa exchange, I found a funny gift for Kev, and a few other goodies to gift. Then I came across that vendor. The “abandoned warehouse” I learned is what it is called. The “not worth it” item was still there! What! It must be meant to be!20181202_140305 I must have it! Ok. fine, My mind screamed “take my money” at me again! I spent way too much money on a fucking awesome, custom made, one of a kind 11th Doctor inspired Bow tie!! Look at this thing! I am so in love with it, I regret nothing. It’s a hair clip by the way. a pretty pretty hair clip and I can’t fricking wait to wear it!!! Matt Smith would be proud! Bow Ties are cool!! Even if they are Hair clips… Well that was my last purchase.

I was so tired, my feet hurt after all the shopping and store walking over the last few days, I was so ready to leave and sit … At the Movie theatre! Wait, wait, wait…I forgot that in my Expo travels20181201_125011 I ran into Jester and Mollymauk cosplayers!!! They look amazing don’t they!!! There is not much more satisfying than meeting fellow critters. The critter community is the most kind, giving, caring and supportive community I have ever seen. I love us critters! After leaving, with a heavy heart, we headed to the theatre to watch Bohemian Rhapsody. OMG! Despite some of the timeline errors and fallacies it was a damn incredible movie. I am not going to go into a big review of it, It was just marvelous. A movie about my “first” favourite band with a cast that portrayed them flawlessly. It gave me goosebumps… both times I watched it. hehe.

With that, my lovelies, comes the end of today’s entry.
Peace out.

Kindness. Love. Happiness.
